In March 2019, the NAAD System Governance Council reviewed and discussed the use of the satellite feeds to make public safety messages available to Last Mile Distributors. Information reviewed included a survey conducted among all LMDs last fall, LMD test reports from November 2018 and May 2019, and discussions with several distributors. The Ku-Band signals are being used by very few LMDs (mainly as a backup connection) and no concerns were raised by any partner. As a result, we are making the following change: the NAAD System Ku-Band signals from our Toronto and Montreal locations will be terminated by August 31, 2019.
The C-Band satellite signal is not impacted by this change. Connections over the internet via RSS or TCP Socket are also not impacted and remain the preferred redundant means to connect to the NAAD System to receive public safety messages in Canada.
We strongly recommend that you establish redundant connections to the NAAD System using TCP Socket, RSS or our C-Band feeds.
